Breast augmentation incisions are placed in one of four places. Under the breast crease, around the nipple, in the armpit or in the belly button. The most common location is under the breast crease which is also called the inframammary fold. In someone with a well-defined crease, the incision will be camouflaged in shadow, making it less noticeable. This scar location is not very noticeable in the nude and is hidden in clothing, even lingerie and bathing suits.

The second most common location is around the nipple. This location works well when your areola has a well-defined border and you are choosing smaller silicone implants or saline implants.

The armpit location is less popular because the scar may be noticeable in sleeveless clothing and bathing suits, particularly if your incision heals with a thicker scar.

The umbilical or belly button incision is least popular, because there is less precision with implant placement during surgery and because the procedure is limited to saline implants.
